Antique Lectern created during the reign of Louis XV is an amazing conversation piece originally used for 1) holding a book while the reader entertained the invitees by reading aloud ( this was group entertainment in tbe 18th century) or 2) it may have been used by a clergyman to give a serman in latin. Its hard to say as it has no religious themes. It was , however owned by a Prince or high nobleman. The Carved Angels on either side of the top section , as well as an angel head, a bull head, a lion head and a horned grotesque are beautiful. The piece came to us with very dark spotty leaf but in excellent condition otherwise. We had it newly gold leafed in 2000 by Serge Studios & replaced the center of the plateaux at the top with crown embossed leather. It will arrive in two pieces , the top comes off the stand. Its very large standing about 5'8" tall and 22" at the widest. It can be shipped. Fed ex or uship. Shipping cost for door to door Uship white glove will cost 350$ in the lower 48 states.
