Job summary / objectives:

We are seeking one or more experienced mechanics / maintenance technicians to join our team at Gravity Park to replace a retiring Senior Amusement Park Maintenance Manager. We welcome all applicants to apply, including those with partial qualifications.

The role(s) will be responsible for all aspects of park maintenance and repair, including:
• Addressing daily maintenance tasks (e.g. mechanical on go-karts, electrical on rides)
• Performing scheduled inspections
• Supporting large ongoing maintenance projects
• Prioritizing the overall maintenance schedule
• Managing parts, tools, and materials inventory

Skills and qualifications essential to success in this role(s) include:
• Background in mechanical repair, construction, welding, electrical, or concrete
• Track record of success in maintenance operations, ideally with 10 or more years of experience and good references with former employers that can be contacted
• Exemplary character – a self-starter who can take direction but who thrives when given autonomy to complete projects
• Physically capable of lifting 50lbs and willing to climb towers

• In person (paid) assessment of project work with Head of Park Operations and the outgoing Park Maintenance Manager where you will work side to complete one or more common maintenance tasks

Desired skills (*indicated highly desired):
• *Mechanical: Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues on motors, cars or equipment (go-kart maintenance and repair are critical)
• *Electrical: Basic understanding of electrical systems and components, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on rides and park infrastructure
• *Technical Aptitude: Aptitude for learning new technical skills and operating specialized maintenance equipment and tools
• Welding: Proficiency in welding techniques to perform repairs and fabrication work on metal structures or equipment around the park as needed
• Construction: Familiarity with basic construction principles and practices, including carpentry, concrete work, and general construction techniques
• Concrete: Proficiency mixing and pouring concrete for diverse projects. Skilled in concrete framing, calculating yardage requirements, and selecting appropriate concrete types. Capable of performing repairs, patching, resurfacing, and sealing
• Inventory Management: Experience in managing parts, tools, and materials inventory, including inventory tracking, ordering / purchasing supplies, and maintaining stock levels
• Project Management: Basic project management skills to plan, coordinate, and execute maintenance projects efficiently, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budgetary constraints

Work environment and expected hours:
• All work will take place onsite at Gravity Park (106 W Marlin St., South Padre Island)
• Standard 8 hr. work days, 5 days a week (9a – 5p), with clock out for lunch
• On call until 9pm 5-6 days a week (being called in is irregular but does occur if a maintenance issue arises that limits nighttime operation of a ride)

Expanded view of responsibilities:

Daily maintenance: Performing daily repairs identified by the Operations Team to ensure nightly operations run smoothly. These are the first tasks performed every morning. Examples include:
• Repairing go-karts (e.g., changing brakes / tires, replacing carburetors / bumpers, replacing the clutch and belt drive on a go-kart, adjusting go-kart speeds to ensure consistency across cars, etc.)
• Replacing boards on go-kart track
• Changing cables on towers (i.e., on large rides)
• Repairing electrical issues (e.g. lighting, motors, wiring ride controls, etc.)
• Replacing carpet on the miniature golf course and other aesthetic repairs
• Fixing concrete in golf course pools, ensuring that water pump is operating
• Fixing fences, latches, gates, etc.
• Maintaining palm trees and plants (e.g. watering, pruning, leaf removal)

Scheduled maintenance: Ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained throughout the park by performing regular inspections and routine preventative maintenance activities. Examples include:
• Weekly: Ferris Wheel greased (e.g., bearings, wheel, axel, motor, etc.); Towers for large rides climbed, inspected, and bearings on all sheaves greased
• Quarterly: Oil for go-karts replaced (i.e., transfer case and engine)

Large Maintenance projects: Supporting ongoing improvement activities across the park and major development projects as they arise. Examples include:
• Go-kart track wood replacement (¼ of wood on track replaced annually)
• Towers for large rides taken down and galvanized
• Ferris wheel chairs taken down, inspected, repaired, and painted

Management of parts, tools, and materials inventory: Ensuring continuous awareness, tracking, and purchasing to maintain inventory for key parts and materials. This includes planning for large upcoming projects and uncommon maintenance tasks as they arise.

Ad Hoc Responsibilities: Actively / continuously identifying potential problems and proactively addressing them. Having a keen eye and taking ownership over the overall needs of the park are essential for success in this role(s).
